The Venture Brothers Christmas Single 2011

Over the years, Astrobase Go! (Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer) have produced holiday singles for Ken Plume‘s Holiday Havoc on A Site Called Fred. Check out the new Venture Brothers Christmas Single for 2011.

This year, we get a heartwarming duet from The Monarch and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch in “Baby It’s Cold In Here.” Baby, It’s Cold Outside was written by Frank Loesser. Originally, it was never intended to be a Christmas song. In its early years it was played year round. In recent years, however, it was recorded by numerous Adult Contemporary artists and began being played as a Christmas Song.

The lyrics in this duet are designed to be heard as a conversation between two people, marked as “mouse” and “wolf” on the printed score. Every line in the song features a statement from the “mouse” followed by a response from the “wolf”. Usually the “wolf” part is sung by a male and the “mouse” by a female. Though the song does not specifically reference any holiday, it is often regarded as a Christmas song due to the lyrics’ depiction of a snowy backdrop, as well as the cozy interior setting that is described by the “wolf” character. As such, it is frequently heard on adult contemporary radio stations around Christmas time.

Jackson Publick Christmas Re-Gifting

Jackson Publick posted a new blog entries this week on Publick Nuisance. Entitled “Re-Gifting,” Jackson shares old comic book art from the AstroArchives.

Have been on a bit of a cleaning spree at both the AstroBase and my home satellite Base (AstroBase Ice Cream Ninja) in some sort of procrastinatory “clean home, clean mind” bid for sanity while writing.

While optimizing the Soul-Bots’ hard drives I’ve come across a few pieces of my old comic art, so I thought I’d share some of them with you fine folks, who vastly outnumber the people who bought the original comics or attended the art shows these first appeared in.

First up is “Oh, To Be Super!” A 7 page comic story done for The Bride of Monkeysuit , (under my Christopher McCulloch pseudonym) back in the summer of 2000, which should be evident by its pg. 1 reference to something called a “pager.”

Check out Jackson’s comic book art in the links below!
