Adult Swim Art Opening at Gallery 1988

Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles is currently hosting a group exhibition featuring art inspired by Adult Swim shows. The art exhibit opened last Friday and features over 100 artists from around the world paying tribute to programs like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Squidbillies, Robot Chicken, Venture Brothers; As well as live action comedies like Delocated, Childrens Hospital and Tim & Eric. Notable artists include Veronica Fish, Scott Listfield, Olly Moss, Dave Perillo, Jay “Ironjaiden” Shaw, and Steve Thomas.

Gallery 1988 is well-known throughout the Los Angeles art scene for displaying pop-culture themed artwork as well as showcasing artwork of emerging artists & designers. The Adult Swim Tribute Show is being held from January 13th through February 4th on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. Visit Gallery 1988′s site for information about the gallery and upcoming shows.

CONVENTION PROFILE
James Urbaniak is an American actor. One of his first noteworthy roles was in the avant-garde playwright/director Richard Foreman’s The Universe, for which Urbaniak won an Obie. He has also been acclaimed for his acting in the films Henry Fool and American Splendor, playing legendary illustrator R. Crumb and the play Thom Pain, for which he was nominated for a Drama Desk Award. He provides the voice for Dr. Thaddeus Venture on The Venture Bros., as well as the Doctor’s brother, Jonas Venture Junior and the super-villain Phantom Limb.

Urbaniak was born in Bayonne, New Jersey. He lives in Santa Monica, California with his wife Julie and their twins, son Severn Jerzy and daughter Esme Maeve.

He also recently portrayed the moderator in Human Centipede Anonymous, a Funny or Die short depicting three men who grapple with their past as a Human Centipede.

Jackson Publick
(Born September 14, 1971) is an American comic book and television writer, storyboard artist, and voice actor known for his work on several Tick properties and for the animated television series The Venture Bros. He authored the comic book miniseries The Tick: Karma Tornado, a spin-off of The Tick, and was a staff writer and storyboard artist on the 1994 Tick animated series. He also worked on storyboards for PB&J Otter and Sheep in the Big City and as a writer on the 2001 Tick live-action series. He created The Venture Bros. in the early 2000s and produced its 2003 pilot episode. He and Doc Hammer are the series’ co-creators, writers, editors, and directors, producing the show through their animation company Astro-Base Go. Doc Hammer
(Born February 2, 1976) Better known by his stage name Doc Hammer, is a multi-disciplinary artist, most notable as co-writer (with Christopher McCulloch), editor, and voice actor (Doctor Girlfriend, Henchman #21 and Master Billy Quizboy) for the animated television series The Venture Bros.. He has appeared in films such as Lisa Hammer’s Not Farewell, Sweet Flesh and Pus$bucket (alongside Terrence Fleming), Ben Edlund’s Crawley, and his own film Rub. He is credited for his earlier work as E.A. Hammer. He is also credited for being the inspiration of the Venture Bros. episode “Are You There, God? Patrick Warburton
(Born November 14, 1964) is an American television and voice actor. He is best known for the TV roles, including the title role of The Tick, David Puddy on Seinfeld, the evil Johnny Johnson on NewsRadio, and anchorman Jeb Denton on Less Than Perfect. As a voice actor, his uniquely deep voice has been lent to well-known roles including Ken in Bee Movie, Kronk in The Emperor’s New Groove and its sequels, bodyguard Brock Samson on The Venture Bros., the wheelchair-using Joe Swanson on Family Guy, Steve Barkin on Kim Possible, and The Wolf in Hoodwinked, among others. He currently appears as macho married man Jeff Bingham in the CBS television program, Rules of Engagement.

The toy company company is set to release Venture Brothers Series 4 and 5 and a Rusty Venture Action Figure Set as a convention exclusive. Effin with Tonight
Be a part of the world premiere of former Tonight Show writer Jim Shaughnessy’s reinvention of late night, Effin with Tonight starring Patrick Warburton (The Venture Brothers, The Tick ) in the first all-original animated late night talk show. Panelists include Patrick Warburton, writer/creator Jim Shaughnessy, co-writer/EP Jerrod Cardwell (Arsenio Hall, George Lopez), and the voice cast of Rachel Butera (The Howard Stern Show), Jay Lamont (Comedy Central standup, Def Comedy Jam), and Joe Cipriano (the voice of FOX television, CBS TV, the Emmy Awards and the Grammy Awards). Effin with Tonight is comedically uncompromising. No hypocrisy is ever ignored, no jokes are off limits, and celebrity phoniness is always exposed. Exclusive preview clips will be shown followed by a Q&A. Effin with Tonight is a Sony Crackle web series debuting in September.

Archer Screening and Q&A
This animated half-hour comedy revolves around the spy agency known as the International Secret Intelligence Service (ISIS) and the lives of its self-involved employees. Series creator Adam Reed (Sealab 2021, Frisky Dingo) and the show’s voice-over actors discuss their daunting and enigmatic work of espionage, reconnaissance missions, and undercover surveillances — which are all actually unmitigated occasions for the ISIS staff to undermine, sabotage, and betray each other for personal gains and prosperity. Childrens Hospital explores the emotional struggles and sexual politics of a group of doctors charged with healthy libidos. The panel will close with a sneak peek at Adult Swim’s newest live-action comedy, NTSF:SD:SUV::, featuring creator and star Paul Scheer (The League). NTSF:SD:SUV:: is a clandestine team of government agents working to protect San Diego from numerous terrorist threats coming in daily from such evil countries as Mexico, Canada, and Guam. This team of highly trained operatives has only one job: saving your ass so you can drive your Prius and see your movies in 3D without worrying about living in a country run by no-good terrorists.

Adult Swim: Black Dynamite
Creators and voice talent from the new animated series offer a sneak peek at the show and answer questions. Executive producer Carl Jones (The Boondocks) and director Scott Sanders (Black Dynamite) appear, in addition to writer and star Michael Jai White, voice actors Tommy Davidson and Kym Whitley, and writer/voice actor Byron Minns, all of whom also starred in the live-action feature film Black Dynamite. The 2009 movie is an outrageous action comedy/spoof that follows ex-CIA agent and full-time ladies’ man Black Dynamite, who’s out to avenge the death of his brother against kung-fu masters, drug-dealing pimps, and The Man. The Black Dynamite animated series further chronicles the exploits of Black Dynamite and his crew.

Bob’s Burgers

The series uses stop-motion animation to bring pop culture parodies to life in a modern take on the variety/sketch show format. In Robot Chicken, no pop culture target is safe. Chris Elliott discusses his first lead television role since the cult favorite Get a Life.
