Too Art for TV 6 – October 2012

Animation is collaborative by necessity — an animated production needs many skilled hands to come to life, and in the process, the countless creative contributions that are made by individuals become immersed in the whole. Teams of people who specialize in style adaptation, drawing, painting, movement, timing, and visual storytelling work together to bring about one coherent television episode or feature film. The process is time consuming, and due to production budget shrinkages and workload increases, artists in animation find themselves devoting every scrap of their creative energy to their jobs. As an annual event, Too Art for TV serves as a reminder that there is a space for the idiosyncratic musings of the animation industry artist.

Animation as an art form continues to evolve and capture the imagination. The artists who are drawn to this field love pop culture, comic books, cinema and technology. They are illustrators, cinematographers, directors, and painters. When these skills and influences are funneled through a more experimental and expressive fine art body, the resulting visuals are at once whimsical and elaborate, as well as peculiar, juvenile, sweet and seductive.

BunnyCutlet is proud to host the sixth annual showing of Too Art for TV, an exhibition featuring exceptional new works from 42 animation industry artists. The exhibit is designed to promote and encourage the fine arts in the animation industry. After it’s first opening in 2006, Too Art for TV has become an important and reliable outlet for New York animation artists.

Brock Samson 3-3/4 Inch Action Figure In Production

Revealed at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con are prototypes of the Venture Bros. 3-3/4″ action figures by Bif Bang Pow. The figures are about the same size as Star Wars action figures and come with a character accessories. The prototypes include Brock Samson, Dr. Mrs. the Monarch and the Venture Brothers, Hank and Dean Venture.

We later learned in our interview with Bif Bang Pow, that the action figures were not green lit and production hinged greatly on audience interest and pre-orders. Pre-orders for the figures opened last August, followed by rallying support from the network and online communities.

After months of uncertainty, Bif Bang Pow and Entertainment Earth finally confirmed toy production yesterday. Leading BBP’s Venture Bros. toy line is Brock Samson with trademark knife and mullet. Bif Bang Pow anticipates the Brock Samson figure will ship after San Diego Comic-Con, late July or early August 2012.

So far, only Brock Samson is confirmed for toy production and your pre-order for these Venture characters has never been more important! Bif Bang Pow needs to hit a certain number of pre-orders before production can begin on the rest of the figures.

Pre-order the figures at Entertainment Earth or ask your favorite comic and toy shops to order the figures for their store. Your credit card will not be charged until the figures arrive later this year and then you’ll have been part of Venture Brothers history!

Action Figure F.A.Q.

I ordered a wave/assortment/set of figures with many different characters in it.
Will I still receive those?

No. Notifications are being sent out now to announce that all waves, assortments and sets have been cancelled. If you ordered one of these items before with a mix of characters, please verify the cancellation has taken place and pre-order the individual Brock Samson figure instead.

Why did this happen?
We tried many different strategies in getting these action figures to market. Factory minimum orders and low pre-orders prevented these from coming to market sooner. Thankfully, we’ve overcome these hurdles for Brock Samson only.

What about the other characters? When will they be released?
We understand that everyone wants to know the fate of the remaining characters and if they will be cancelled or will be going into production. First, the line will not be cancelled unless our license expires in a few years. The fate of the remaining characters depends on strong pre-orders. We will make announcements when each new character is about to go into production, whenever that may be. So in theory you may see more delays on certain characters, but eventually we hope to release them.

Thanks again for your continued support of this product line!

James Urbaniak in Travesties – March 13th

Take one part Wilde, a touch of Lenin, a dash of Dada, a pinch of Joyce and you’ve got Tom Stoppard’s absurdly hilarious Travesties. Prepare to be delighted as Stoppard (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Shakespeare in Love) spins you into a dazzling medley of literature, philosophy, politics, and history. The wildest revolutionary minds of the 20th century come alive in this romantic and achingly funny modern masterpiece.

Travesties is set during World War I, when James Joyce, Lenin, and the Dadaist Tristan Tzara were all residents of Zurich. Tom Stoppard imagines them coming together to stage an amateur production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest.

The cast will feature James Urbaniak as Henry Carr, Christian Coulson as Tristan Tzara, Fred Aresenault as James Joyce, and Demonsthenes Chrysan as Lenin as well as Luisa Strus (Nadya), Everett Quinton (Bennett), Sara Topham (Cecily), and Susannah Flood (Gwendolyn).

Original music will be by David Shire. The design team will include David Farley (set and costume design), David Weiner (lighting design), and Fitz Patton (sound design).

“Travesties is one of the great comedic masterpieces of the 20th century. I am of the belief that it’s Stoppard’s greatest play. Put simply, it’s a memory play of events in 1917 remembered by a man in 1974, and not necessarily remembered correctly. As with all of Tom’s plays, it contains extraordinary ruminations on life and art, but it does it in a way that is boldly comedic” says Director, Sam Buntrock.

Tom Stoppard’s Travesties opens March 13th and runs till April 1st at the McCarter Theater Center. For tickets and information, visit McCarter Theater Center online at http://maccartertheater.org.
