King Gorilla by Douglas Lovelace

Up for auction on eBay is original production art by Douglas “Two-Coast” Lovelace! Lovelace was Storyboard Revision Supervisor on Season 1 of the Venture Brothers. Lovelace has also done storyboard and design for all 4 seasons of the show.

Auction item is three pencil drawings of King Gorilla from the Venture Brothers Season 1, “Return To Spider Skull Island”. The art is the final storyboard as seen on the show. Illustrated on regular letter size paper, drawings of various dimensions: King Gorilla Image One is 6″ x 7″; King Goilla Images Two and Three are roughly 4″ x 5″. Condition is excellent – shows use but no tears or kinks.

Season 1 of Venture Bros had a very Beatles-in-Hamburg feeling for me. The designs were being fire-tested and there was a wonderful sense of exploration and discovery in drawing the characters. This was 2003/04 and digital production had not yet taken over the storyboard process. This meant a lot of drawings were done for scenes, then photocopied to size and cut into the board pages. This artwork is the original drawing later copied & used in the board.
